Frederick Sommer gave many public talks during the 1970s and 1980s. He began each talk by sitting down and explaining he would take questions from the audience. "What's on your mind?" he would ask and then add, "Don't worry, ask me any question." Once in Emmet Gowin's photography classroom at Princeton University, someone offered the first question, "What makes you tick?" Sommer lightly answered, "The rhythm of the heart." |
