In 1944, Frederick Sommer, and his wife Frances, traveled east and visited Charles and Musya Sheeler. Frederick and Charles discussed the problem the art community had with artists exploring both photography and painting or drawing. Both men realized the artist's advantage of working concurrently in multiple visual languages.
