Frederick Sommer began making drawings as a young boy. In his teenage years he apprenticed in an architects office where he assisted in making architectural drawings. Sommer was always interested in the thumbnail sketch. He was more interested in exploring design possibilities at the beginning of the architectural project than in producing the finalized plans.
