Hadrian's Villa
Sizes vary, on 11 x 14 inch paper, 1961
This photograph is made from a smoke on cellophane negative. The structure within this abstract image reminded Frederick Sommer of the remaining walls of the Villa built c. AD 125-134 at Tivoli near Rome by the emperor, Hadrian.

Also see the Special Insights section for a smoke on glass comparison.
